Influencer Angelo Bonevacia

Interview October 2023

Would you like to share with us some information about your family life?
My name is Angelo Bonevacia (50) and I am married to my beautiful wife Sherrylene Bonevacia (51) and we have three children together. We have two beautiful daughters and a handsome son. Our oldest daughter is 24, the middle one is 21 years old and our son is 13 years old. All of our three kids were born in the Netherlands, where we lived for 16 years. In 2012 we re-emigrated to Curaçao so I could start my career at ‘Betonindustrie Brievengat’, in an executive position.

We are a very tight-knit family who cares for each other and we share our love and respect.

Even though our daughters are living in the Netherlands we still keep in contact with each other every day. They are well-formed and they are doing very well in the Netherlands. As their parents, we are very glad about that. They have a good foundation, are well-educated, and know their norms and values. They know who they are and what they can do regardless of where they live. The place where they live does not define who they are.

Where were you born Angelo?
I was born in Curaçao on the 1st of November 1972.

We are a very tight-knit family who cares for each other and we share our love and respect.

The Bonevacia family

How supportive were your parents in letting you become who you are right now?
My parents supported me in everything. They taught me manners, to obey and show respect to everyone, to be an example for others, to have a heart that cares, and to serve and protect.

My mother did teach us to do all the household chores and she also taught me how to deal with winning and losing. My father showed me how to be strong-minded and he gave me his number one rule: “Make sure to protect and take care of all of your children” So you know for sure that they did eat, drink, and have a roof on top of their heads. As a Young boy, I carried many responsibilities. I had to be an example for my younger sister and my little brother. On top of that, I had to be an example for my whole neighborhood. I grew up in the ‘Boca Sami’ area.

My parents took me every Sunday to the church, showed me so much love, they gave me good examples and attention. That formed me well and that helped me to become the man I am today.

Do you have other brothers and sisters?
I have a younger sister (49) and a younger brother (46).

Anything else of your family life?
We enjoy quality time together.

Anything else of your family life?
We enjoy quality time together. My wife understands and supports me very well.

Could you share something about your educational background and your experience?
After primary school, I went to Middle school which is called Mavo, then MTS (Technical Vocation School and later to the HTS (Advanced Technical School formation, where I studied.  Architecture and structural engineering. Later I specialized in concrete as a concrete technologist and concrete technology consultant. I also have the authority to teach as a 2nd-degree teacher.

What are your responsibilities at Betonindustrie Brievengat?
I am the General Manager

How would you describe your management style?
I like my personnel to be happy, motivated, and well-taught so they can pass their happiness and good mood over to our clients. By giving good instructions, and showing empathy, challenge, and support, I like to stimulate and educate my personnel to be as good as or better than myself. When I am not at the office everything has to keep moving on. I like to innovate and sell solutions together with my team, as together we can achieve more.

You seem to be a person who is very involved with the youth and also involved in track and field and coaching youth. Where does this come from?
At a younger age, I did a lot of sports: soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball, karate, and track and field. I liked soccer and track and field the most and that is why I still do both of them. I give the youth track and field training and I still play soccer myself.

Do you have hobbies or interests that you are also passionate about?
I educate the youth through sports by motivating them never to quit, and to respect, motivate, and teach each other to become better. They learn to work together and become one family, one team

What is your BIG WHY or driving motivation to be who you are right now?
I know who I am and what I can and I am strong-minded. So I don’t let anyone tell me that I can’t do a certain task. I challenge myself to improve myself every day. I am always open to learning more and I am aware that I can learn from anyone. My loved ones motivated me and God gave me strength and knowledge to succeed.

My BIG WHY is: “Having a heart to Serve” (Kurason pa sirbi) employees, my boss, the youth, and basically everybody who needs it.

What are your plans for the coming years for the coming 5 years from now?
To have my own company, so that I enable me to help more people with my knowledge and skills, instead of just one company.

Do you use your inner voice to evaluate when dilemmas show up? How does that work for you, as we have noticed that you are also a spiritual person?
I definitely use my inner voice, to evaluate dilemmas that show up. I put them in front of God and ask him for the knowledge to deal with the dilemma or problem. I would say, God goes ahead of me and arranges everything, filling those that I am going to meet with knowledge so that when I am there, I can only express solutions to these problems. That is what comes out of my mouth.

How are you trying also to keep up with your knowledge and skill levels?
By reading Technical magazines from my field and visiting the different available courses

How would you describe Angelo in one word or one sentence?
Angelo is a noble and strong-minded person, who can communicate with everyone and loves a good conversation. He’s responsible, cares for his loved ones, has a passion for the world of concrete, and commercialization, and likes to sell solutions. I am a humble person, who loves to help and I love having a good conversation.

What are your strengths?
I am a responsible, assertive, and loyal person with high ethical standards who works in a very structured manner. I am good at planning my work.

What is a trait that still is a “work in progress”?
I have learned to help but not at the expense of myself. I also have learned to let go of other people’s preoccupations, but still have to remind myself of this, at times.

What was a defining moment in your life?
I would say the education I got from my parents, made me the person I am now, irrespective of where I live in the world. I am still the same person.

What would your loved ones, family, and friends say about you let’s say 20 years from now when you are celebrating another birthday?
That they are proud of me and happy with the things I have done for them in their lives. I told my father when he was still alive, that I would do at least the same for my children that he has done for me. My satisfaction is that my children are already telling me this.

Anything else?
Yes, the answer to the following questions: How can we get my thoughts to the rest of the world and why is this important? What we have is not for us to keep, others need what we have in words, advice, wisdom, etc. If we don’t share this, we are missing the opportunity, even if we pass away, that they could still be “going on living a better life” with the words, advice, and wisdom we shared.

One of the 250 Influencers

Angelo Bonevacia is a driven, humble, empathic, strong-minded, solution-oriented, and spiritual individual who is defined by the way he was educated by his parents. This makes him touch the lives of many not only as a father, husband, and director of his employees but also as a mentor, and coach for generations of youth for example in Track and Field, where he is actively involved. Sports according to him is an excellent way to develop the right attitudes like mutual respect, team spirit, and continuous improvement through hard work, discipline, and continuous practice. These traits are also needed to be successful in life. An attitude he has modeled his whole life and still practices. He has “a heart to serve everybody who needs it”, and a mentality to “help people”, which makes him affect the lives of many. Angelo is a great communicator who loves a good conversation. Because of his strengths, as a responsible, assertive, and loyal person with high ethical standards, who works in a very structured manner, he always achieves the things he set his mind on to achieve. His attitude of continuously investing in himself and his employees makes him stand out even further. The goal of the core group of Share2Uplift for 2023

The goal of the Share2Uplift movement is to: “Identify 250 leaders from all walks of life to connect, align and create impactful changes in all walks of life, which includes intergenerational collaboration by the end of 2023.” We will use interviewing Influencers, meet-and-greet events, “train-the-trainers”-programs on “Emotional Mastery” and “Intentionality “as national intervention strategies, to reach this goal on top of our goal to scale up the possibilities to connect, align and create impact via a virtual platform. We believe that by collaborating with Miguel Goede on the virtual Vision 2030 platform, we will accelerate the possibilities to connect the diaspora and others elsewhere in the world and on the island willing to constructively create impactful changes in Curaçao, to join.

As Share2Uplift, we are fully trying to align with this thinking of Center for Curriculum Redesign to promote this agenda in our educational systems and workplace. So, in that sense, we fully support any initiative to make our educational system 21st-century proof.

Share2Uplift aligners are those that:
– Create an inspiring vision of the future;
– Motivate and inspire people to engage with that vision;
– Manage the delivery of the vision;
– Coach and build a team, so that it is more effective at achieving the vision. These criteria are now being polished.

We also consider these 5 values the most important ones for Share2Uplift aligners. They are:

• Peace from within;
• Compassion;
• Respectfulness;
• Integrity;
• Responsibility.

As we will progress towards this goal, we will update you on the progress.
