Interviewed by Angelica Parris.

I have struggled all my life, but I am a fighter and I balance in favor of youth development.

-Majron Maduro – Fundashon Un Bon Hóben pa un bon famía

Majron Maduro did not have an easy upbringing. Today he fights he struggles, but he possesses a very particular leadership skill that many do not have. He does not shy away from his shortcomings and he takes all the time to learn and lead others that may have encountered the same faith. As a leader you lead, follow, and keep coming back for more no matter what. Majron is the perfect example of the times that the world is in.

Could you share with us some information about your family life?
“I grew up with my family of 3 brothers and 2 sisters. I am the second-born, unfortunately, we lost our eldest brother and tension was always high in my family. I always needed more attention from my parents, because I grew up with the feeling in the back of my head that nobody wanted me. My mother did all she could, my father was around, but I never felt him. He was always far from my life. I was placed under Government Care and that is where I found my peace”, according to the young leader.

In many communities around the world, underprivileged children who end up in Government or Foster Care facilities are left in the hands of social workers and other leaders to fill in the holes of the emptiness of their lives. During his stay in the institution, Majron got the education he needed, he developed his abilities and skills, and his knowledge for personal development grew.

“Special Education and attention helped me.”

Could you share something about your educational background and your experience? Once under Government Care Majron excelled in many areas.
“That is where I received the basic education that enabled me to get into Vocational School. I had many difficulties reading and writing, but after 4 years I successfully finished school and became a carpenter. I took it upon myself to go to as many lectures as I could, I followed the news with attention and I wanted to find the correct paths to continue my personal development”.

Life taught Majron that he could be independent and that he had to move and take bold steps to become what he is today. As a contributor to his blog, I am inspired by Majron. Shyly he explained that he can’t speak English, but it will not keep him from learning other languages as well.
“I managed to apply all the skills that I have learned to help others who may encounter the same threats that I did in my life, to move on. I want all young adults to know that they can achieve the maximum in their lives, as long as they realize the realities of life!”.

Majron Maduro did not step back. What is your BIG WHY or driving motivation to be who you are right now?
“We all have a strong power within that pushes us further. I can express a great deal, but I know how to recognize and thank all the people who inspired me so that today I can help others. That is the big WHY in my life. This is the reason why I keep moving I am to balance my capabilities to help the youth and young adults who need development in their lives to become leaders”.

Do you use your inner voice to evaluate when dilemmas show up? How does that work for you?
”I talk to the Universe and I use my Inner strength.”

What are your plans for the coming years for the coming 5 years from now? Majron has a future with excellent opportunities. Majron ambition for the next 5 years is to open a center that has all to ingredients to create leaders who become strong despite cognitive and social setbacks.
“I work very hard on this dream and I see myself setting the first brick, not for anyone to step on it, but to create a future for those who need it. I motivate myself by visualizing how far I want to reach. I want to work every day so I can be better than the day before. The universe has a lot to offer so I talk to the Universe”.

Nevertheless, there are barriers, and as mentioned previously, language is one of them. What are your strengths?
“Despite the challenges, I am convinced that I can inspire the world. My strength is in the areas of dialogue, organization, and support.”

How would you describe Angelo in one word or one sentence? And how would you introduce yourself if you would meet a stranger?
“I always evaluate myself and remain balanced. If I were to travel abroad one day, and I have to introduce myself, I would start by saying that I am a very calm, well-mannered person who is always willing to help and I never refuse to take on an honest challenge that is different. I am balanced!”.

Who are the persons that have inspired you the most? It may sound strange but Majron has no role models.
“I don’t want to imitate anyone. I want to empower myself by picking up knowledge here and there. I always acknowledge my teacher Mrs. Milva Winklaar Coleo. She always had a particular approach to help and educate the youth.”

What would your loved ones, family, and friends say about you let’s say 20 years from now when you are celebrating another birthday?
“In 20 years from now, I want the youth that I help today, to understand the way I work to educate and empower them on the realities of life. My legacy will be that out of nothing you can become someone, keep the faith, and always be honest towards others in your life. Life is a balance in my view. Everything is weighed out on the way you move”.

Furthermore, there would be a leadership program that accommodates the youth of Fuik respectably and admirably with support.

Anything else that you want to share?  At 43, Majron has his hands full and that keeps him busy.
“I do many activities for the youth and younger children at the Foundation’s Center in Seru Grandi”.

During its 14 years of existence the foundation has registered around 350 to 400 kids and their activities run the entire week. They have an impressive curriculum that runs from Monday through Friday. It varies around painting, boxing, farming, music, and crafts.
“But we also participate in public activities, walkathons, and other cultural events that are well known such as the harvest festival. We have been winning the lights decoration competition in our neighborhood for the last 2 years and we have been nominated but the “I Am Butterfly competition, with a good chance of winning in the final round, with 12 other organizations competing”.

The extra support from other organizations: Majron can see his dreams come through with the help he gets from many families and organizations in his area.

  • “Mr. Don Martina and his family give his project support as well as other influencers on the island: Shaheen Elhage, the Meyer Bakery, Mr. Willy Maal, the Breusers family, Unidat di Bario: a neighborhood organization, and many others who see the need of children in the area.“
  • “I did not attend the workshop with Mr. Ivan Kuster, because of my responsibilities, but I observed reactions and feedback from the youth that attended and they said: “They explained it well. Mr. de Lira did a job well done”.
  • Finally, Majron is happy that the participants get a meal when they go to the activities, whether it’s bread, cereals, or lunch meats, eggs, and juice, they eat. The monthly budget runs on utilities which is about 600 per month. That includes water, gasoline electricity, and the internet.

“Transportation is our responsibility we pick the children up and take them home. If we manage this challenge we can do so much more for the children”.

The goal of the core group of Share2Uplift for 2023

The goal of the Share2Uplift movement is to: “Identify 250 leaders from all walks of life to connect, align and create impactful changes in all walks of life, which includes intergenerational collaboration by the end of 2023.” We will use interviewing Influencers, meet-and-greet events, “train-the-trainers”-programs on “Emotional Mastery” and “Intentionality “as national intervention strategies, to reach this goal on top of our goal to scale up the possibilities to connect, align and create impact via a virtual platform. We believe that by collaborating with Miguel Goede on the virtual Vision 2030 platform, we will accelerate the possibilities to connect the diaspora and others elsewhere in the world and on the island willing to constructively create impactful changes in Curaçao, to join.

As Share2Uplift, we are fully trying to align with this thinking of Center for Curriculum Redesign to promote this agenda in our educational systems and workplace. So, in that sense, we fully support any initiative to make our educational system 21st-century proof.

Share2Uplift aligners are those that:
– Create an inspiring vision of the future;
– Motivate and inspire people to engage with that vision;
– Manage the delivery of the vision;
– Coach and build a team, so that it is more effective at achieving the vision. These criteria are now being polished.

We also consider these 5 values the most important ones for Share2Uplift aligners. They are:

• Peace from within;
• Compassion;
• Respectfulness;
• Integrity;
• Responsibility.

As we will progress towards this goal, we will update you on the progress.

d we will send you the Zoom link so that you can participate in our presentation of this book.
