Influencer Mira van der Toorn: Love and perseverance

Interview August 2021

Could you share with us some information about your family life?
I was born in Holland and lived for 13 years in Curaçao and 2 years in Trinidad and Tobago, so I have a special bond with the Caribbean. I have been visiting Curaçao for quite some years as I went on vacations since I was 16 years old, as my ex-partner was born in Curaçao. I am the mother of 4 children and I have one brother and one sister, both are older than me. My parents have been important to me as I was the youngest of their children and therefore developed and deeper connection with them. My father passed away in April and I am very much aware of this deeper bond with him. Every phase in a person’s life brings up new experiences, as the passing away of my father also triggered a deeper bond with my brother.

Could you share something about your educational background and your experience?
I have always been very curious and eager to learn as a child, but I was learning differently than most other children. I am dyslectic, so I am not good at reading nor writing. I did not finish any formal study but I became a sports masseur. As I discovered that I could heal people on an energetic level, I went to the USA and studied and have a degree in spiritual healing. I am now a spiritual consultant where I approach my clients from a holistic perspective. In the USA I developed different things as I learned how energy works, I developed feeling people and seeing the colors in the energy field of my clients. We are living now in an era where intuition, where all of us are born with, is gaining importance and humanity is, fortunately, becoming more spiritual. I teach my clients to discover their own body, as everything is energy and I teach them to come closer to nature.

We have understood that you are involved in energy work and personal development. Can you expand a little bit on this?
I am a Fengshui consultant for individuals and companies, but then the Chinese energetic version is based on how the wind blows and where the sun rises. I am also a personal coach where I coach people from my core and intuition. People come to me with a certain theme, partnership issues, or their work for example and I enable them to focus on the choices that they can make and that helps them to make different choices. They are empowered by me because, in the end, they will have to do whatever needs to be done themselves, I will not tell them what to do. I teach them that they are their Guru. In that process, we learn from one another. What I offer is very accessible as back in the Netherlands, I had to start all over again as a sports masseur, but now I am exclusively offering energy work, that is how I profile myself.

What is your BIG WHY or driving motivation to be who you are right now?
I am as I am and other people need my services. Compassion and love for oneself, it is the highest good that you can offer to yourself. To be able to let others also feel and experience this love and compassion for oneself is my BIG WHY. I do this and in that sense, I am sharing, because “sharing is caring”.

I have noticed that I can take on a lot, I protect myself from darkness or negative energy through Love. Love is the only way to prevent you from getting drained by the negative energies. I use my tools to maintain the quality of the light and every person has something unique to offer as there are so many roads to lead to the same end. On top of that, I have the benefits of my collaborations. In my Agni-tradition tradition, we can call our teacher and consult other colleagues when needed. We are equal, ego-less, and humble and we are not a Guru, making the effect of our services, at least 10 times stronger. I teach people to discover their strengths because then the effect will tend to be more positive and less negative.

What are your plans for the coming years and when do you consider that you have been successful in your personal and business/professional life, let us say 5 years from now?
To be honest, I live in the moment and don’t look so far into the future. Furthermore, I already consider myself to be successful. I am growing personally and the group that I am touching in 5 years will have grown. My reach will not be limited to the Netherlands only, but it would cover the whole world. I will be successful if I will be able to flow everywhere where I might land.

What are the challenges that you are dealing with? And how are you dealing with these different challenges you confront?
My learning moments while being able to stay in my loving core and center, during those moments. My father passed away in April of this year and the grieving because of his passing away, has been a challenging process. I am telling myself constantly to allow the pain and in that sense, as I go through this process, I am happy to see that I am growing.

In this process, others might see that what I am doing is a little bit selfish because as I am going through this process all on my own and I am therefore less available for others. I am less able to fulfill other people their wishes, as I am used to. You know where your core wants to go and but to grow, you have to grow through the pain. You can’t deny it and you don’t want to block it and I am sure that I will come out much stronger out of this process. This emptiness needs to be healed in seemed for now my availability for others has become less. But I know that it is my process.

I am also guiding clients with their dying processes. After going through this grieving process I am convinced that I will be better able to do this for future clients because I have experienced this myself. I will be able to feel better what they are feeling and offer better comfort in that process, as it is a deeply emotional process.

Do you use your inner voice to evaluate when dilemmas show up? How does that work for you?
I have more than one method to do this. I meditate according to my method and my 8th chakra is open so I can consult my spiritual guides. But at times I am a little bit stubborn. If I don’t feel like it, I don’t do it, so I am the only one that gets disappointed but then again I am human and we as humans have our sides that are not perfect, call it our dark side. If we were born perfect we would have nothing to learn right? Like the tradition to meditate 20 minutes, yes I believe that 3 minutes is good enough for me to release myself of the tradition that it has to be done in a certain way, as long as it works for me.

How are you trying also to keep up with your knowledge and skills levels?
I work on my regular updates by visiting colleagues when I feel the need to do it. I stopped with the massages and I am now purely involved as a spiritual consultant. I do my regular updates at least once a year and when on a need-to-to basis. I have stopped with the massages and I am now solely working as a spiritual consultant. I use my common sense a lot and I am very selective in the books I read. I love to stay close to my core so that I can experience the Divine within me. It’s then when I experience total freedom. I am doing this in my way and in everything that I had to do, I experienced resistance. It’s the same when you believe, the Divine is beautiful and God is energy, it is already there and it is the most unique form of Love. Where you find it, be it in a church, that is cultural. I have learned this through self-development and that was so nice and the Universe has created so many possibilities for all these people to be connected with the higher Source. I feel my heart opening as I talking about this right now. The core of people is so important.

What are your strengths?
I am always positive. I am a strong person, very eager, and open to learning new things based on my strengths. I can even learn from my “enemies”.

Do you have hobbies or interests that you are also passionate about?
I intensely love to dance. I love my children. I love hiking and being involved with people.

Do you hike alone or with people?
I am always surrounded by people and almost do nothing alone. This is a real eye-opener, maybe I should schedule some more me alone time, yes…indeed this is a real epiphany.

If you as Mira would meet a stranger on the bus (let say in Miami or London) and they would ask you to introduce yourself what would you answer?
I am an open person, open to meet other people. I trust people and if it feels right I will get along with people easily. I am not a scared person.

How would you describe Mira in one word or one sentence?
Two things: love and perseverance. I have a strong character but at the same time, I can be very loveable. But if something bothers me I can be very opinionated.

Who are the persons that have inspired you the most in your life career?
There is not one person per se that inspires me, but life itself and people inspire me.

What is a trait that is still a work in progress?
I need to doubtless. I need to work on that part of my being. When I doubt, I go into meditation and what comes, I need to accept this and doubtless. This will help me move forward faster.

The most challenging part of this work is the things that confront you on a mundane, worldly level. Everything manifests itself when it’s ready. I have no influence on the moment it manifests itself.

At times I needed to wait a little bit longer. I need to improve this on that level. But in the end, going through the motions is much more important than the doubt itself.

But then again on the other hand the doubt is okay. Our belief system is part of our consciousness and that in itself is an eye-opener for me.

Because all is well, you might feel this doubt and you need to just allow it because it is okay to have doubts. At times I tend to stay stuck in it and we all at a time stay stuck in it. That is why periodically I go to visit my colleagues to get an update. Just like computer software needs an update at times, I need it to cleanse and rid myself of some energies periodically. It is comparable with the cleaning of the clutter in your house.

What was a defining moment in your life?
Starting to do the work that I am doing now, was a defining moment. I am doing this work since 2012. Before that, I had, more often than not, bad health, and the doctors couldn’t find anything. Through self-development and synergistically meeting the right people on my journey, since then I am, healthy and highly motivated in what I am doing.

Where do you want to be 10 years from now with your life/career?
I would like to combine what city life has to offer with the ae life, with no TV. That I would have achieved a balance and the best of those two worlds, with two houses. I hope that I would have convinced others to come along with me to achieve this and feel free.

What would you want your Loved Ones, family, friends, and others to say about you let’s say 20 years from now?
That life is fun and they will recall positive vibes. That Mira is so fun to be with. That people would remember me for my smile and remember me for who I am and not for the amount of money I have in my bank account.

What makes you stay optimistic about the future of the world as we are in the middle of a worldwide pandemic, recession, and in the middle growing environmental challenges because of the global warming consequences?
I have colleagues and connections all over the world and they contact me without me needing to call them first by phone or so. They just feel that I might need some help. It is a kind of telepathic connection and this gives me so much strength, it is better than 10.000 likes on Facebook. This phenomenon can bring along a lot of changes for the good of all humanity. Our work and the network are very valuable. This telepathic connection of “I think of you and I feel you”. They’re so much more than the eye can see out there and that is why I firmly believe that we are going to experience some important positive changes in the coming years.
